WG 2 : "New Transport Service Specification" |
The transport service interface - now recognised as a key architectural component - must be enhanced to meet these new challenges. In particular, the transport service must be extended to support enhanced quality of service (QoS) and multicast/multipeer connectivity in accordance with the new ISO SC21 frameworks on QoS and multicast/multipeer. This working group will participate in these ISO activities to finalize the two frameworks. In addition, it is important that QoS parameterisation at the service interface is specified in such a way that the need for QoS monitoring by the service provider is taken into account. The approach of this Working Group was to evaluate current enhanced transport services (in particular the OSI95 peer-to-peer service [Doc.ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6/WG4 N821 & N822] and the ETS and CIO multipeer services [Doc. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6/N7883 and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6/WG4 4K56]) and, using this evaluation as a basis, develop a new service specification suitable for the support of the communications requirements of Multimedia Teleservices. Enhanced transport services are currently the subject of ISO SC6 standardisation activities with both QoS and multicast extensions being considered. This Working Group has tracked these developments and contributed its results into the ISO forum. In particular, the new transport service has been contributed to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6/WG4 in connection with the new project on ECTS (Enhanced Communication Transport Service) [ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6/WG4 4K74].
