How to reach Liège (town centre)
Liège is a thousand-year-old city with a historical centre and numerous
monuments, churches and museums. Liège is located one hundred
kilometres east of Brussels.
- By air : Travellers arrive at Brussels National Airport. Shuttle
trains(Airport City Express) operate every 20 minutes between the airport and
several stations of Brussels. It is better to get off this train at the North
Station of Brussels. It takes approximately 15 minutes. We advise you not to
take a taxi from the airport to the North Station of Brussels because this is
very expensive (± 1000 BEF). If you want to take a taxi anyway, do not accept
proposals made inside the airport hall, but use those parked in the official
rank at the exit from the building. From the North Station of Brussels, direct
trains to Liège (Guillemins station) can be taken every hour, at least
from 6:00 to 24:00. The journey lasts approximately 1 hour. If you prefer
renting a car, the most important car rental companies have an office in the
Airport building at the exit of the luggage reclaim hall.
- By train : Numerous international trains are routed via
Liège,Guillemins station.
- By road : Liège is directly linked to the European motorway
network through several motorways: from Brussels (E40), from Paris (E42), from
Antwerp (E313), from Aachen (E40) or from Maastricht (E25).
Directly to the University campus by road
When you are approaching Liège, the best way to reach the University
Campus is to follow the sign Université de Liège -
SART TILMAN. There are other small campuses in other places and
administrative buildings in town. So remember that the Institut
d'Electricité Montefiore is located on the Sart Tilman campus.
- If you are arriving from Brussels (E40), Paris (E42), you follow the
direction Liège and take the motorway A602 when approaching the city. From
Antwerp (E313), you first have to follow the motorway E40 in the direction
of Namur, Mons, Paris, and then the direction of Liège. This will lead you
to the motorway A602 as above. You will follow A602 until exit 7. Then you
will follow the N617 road on the left bank of the river Meuse (direction :
Marche) until you find the sign Université de Liège - SART TILMAN. This new
road (N63) crosses the river and then slopes upwards. It also leads to
Marche and Dinant. New signs will tell you when you have to leave this road
to take the N680 road. Soon after taking the N680, you can enter the
campus. Now refer to a detailed map of the campus or follow the signs P32 (Parking 32).
- If you are arriving from Aachen (E40) or Maastricht (E25), you will
exist the motorway at Liège. Then you will follow the signs
Marche or Dinant. This road runs across the city of
Liège, along the left bank of a channel which is parallel to the river
Meuse. After crossing the channel, the road runs along the right bank
of the channel and then exits the city and slopes upwards to the University
Campus (N680). After a couple of kilometres, you can enter the campus. Now
refer to a detailed map of the campus or follow the signs P 32 (Parking 32).
