The evaluation is done in a local area ATM network based on instrumentation of the main data path combined with resource monitoring of the end-system. The evaluation shows that the current architecture of the studied CSCW application JVTOS under X11R5/SunOS will not scale to a larger number of users. To summarize, JVTOS works nicely as either a Pic turePhone or for cooperative work. Combining them will in some cases be a problem since the performance of the application sharing will suffer due to the CPU intensive PicturePhone. Our views of problem areas including transport layer protocol issues are underlined and potential solutions are discussed.Keywordscomputer supported cooperative work, implementation, JVTOS, measurements |
